Whitfords Nodes Fitness Staircase

Scope of Work Summary:

  • Comprehensive design analysis and risk identification program in consultation with the Principal
  • Fabrication of over 550 individual steel members, including application of protective coatings and delivery to site laydown area.
  • Development of a lift plan and load schedule that would allow lifts to clear the two protected Tuart trees which frame the staircase. This meant that a 250T all terrain crane, complete with fly-jib and counterweight, was utilised to execute the lifts, lifting in all components without any damage to the dune vegetation or Tuarts.
  • Installation of all structural members and design elements including decking, feature balustrades, roofing and interpretation signage.

Project Highlights:

  • Due to height and location of structure footprint, detailed structure and decking weight calculations were undertaken to determine what size modular section could be lifted by the cranes during install, and fabrication schedules built back from these calculations.
  • The resulting design stipulated 575 individual fabricated components, requiring over 5,500 bolts and 11,000 screws for assembly and installation, in addition to Enviro Infrastructure executing concrete pathways, tactile installs, asphalt approaches, coir matting installation, comms and data runs, electrical installs, fencing and revegetation.
  • Enviro Infrastructure’s Civil Team, along with Fabrication Team and consulting engineers, proposed a grout-filled screw pile design with interlocking cap plates, which could be bolted to a matching baseplate on the structure columns and the fabrication and treatment of 55 x 3000mm single helix screw piles, with all piles delivered to site and installed using an excavator winched down the hillside.
